Due to unforeseen circumstances, I’ll no longer be participating at SODO Agogo. I was sure pleased by the positive response I saw this week. Don’t know if anyone else will pick up the baton and run with it or not, but at any rate, thank you all for your interest.
Hmmm…That Was Fast
February 26, 2009 by seanpboydFriends In The Local News Biz
February 25, 2009 by seanpboydWe want to give a hearty shout-out to the fine folks at both West Seattle Blog and The Beacon Hill Blog for a little publicity yesterday. One thing about SODO, as The Beacon Hill folks pointed out, is we aren’t very residential. So, a lot of our peeps are their peeps as well, not to mention all the other neighborhoods in Seattle that help fill our offices and stores each day. So, we hope to keep working alongside other local news outlets like West Seattle Blog and The Beacon Hill Blog in getting useful information out to all of our readers.
Coming Up This Weekend
February 25, 2009 by seanpboydWednesday seems a very appropriate day to start dreaming about the weekend. To assist all those daydreamers sitting at computers right now, how about checking out Showbox SoDo this Friday and Saturday? Friday’s offering features The Game, with Nipsey Hussle on The Game’s LAX World Tour, starting at 7PM. Now, I am admittedly not a hip-hop person. But anytime you get someone with a multi-platinum album and Grammy nominations into a venue like Showbox SoDo, it’s going to rock. Saturday, the Showbox and Funky Monkey 104.9 present Kottonmouth Kings with La Coka Nostra, Blaze Ya Dead Homie, Big B, Potluck, and Short Dawg Tha Native. We, of course, recommend that you get out and enjoy some live music this weekend at Showbox SoDo.

Graffiti Watch
February 25, 2009 by seanpboydReader Patrick has let us know about a page on the City of Seattle web site to report instances of graffiti. The link, for all who are interested, is http://www2.seattle.gov/util/forms/graffiti/graffitiForm.asp. Patrick advises reporting one a day because it’s fun! I think if every person employed in SODO reported one an hour, we’d have ten years of fun in front of us. Thank you, Patrick, for the helpful link.
On the same topic, namely, prevention, the Sodo Business Association has published a page on their web site with a cornucopia of regulations, advice, and other helpful information about keeping graffiti at bay. One interesting item to note is that businesses can be fined for not removing graffiti in a timely fashion. I understand the intent behind this regulation, but doesn’t that punish the wrong people? I know of several businesses locally where the shop owner is the only person at the store, and who may or may not be able to hire a painter at the drop of a hat in order to remove the offending tag.
Still, since that’s the rule, take advantage of the kits that the Sodo Business Association keeps in stock to help local businesses out with this problem. Give them a call at 206-292-7449, or check out their web site, for more information.
Fire at 1st and Massachusetts – Update
February 25, 2009 by seanpboydFrom Peg Nielsen with the City of Seattle comes a report of a fire at 1721 First Avenue South. This is a block or so north of Holgate. If I’m not mistaken, this is the location of Hooverville, a popular watering hole with many people who work down here in SODO. At last report (about 20 minutes ago), Peg indicates the fire is out, but emergency vehicles are still blocking the roadway. If you’re heading down into SODO, 4th Ave S is a better option right now. More information as it becomes available. Hope everyone is safe up there.
ID Regulations To Slow SODO Traffic Some More
February 24, 2009 by seanpboydThe West Seattle Blog just posted an SDOT update about possible traffic snarls stemming from enforcement of identification rules for drivers entering Port of Seattle terminals. The Alaskan Way S and Atlantic St intersection is pegged as a potential trouble spot. Starting to think it will be easier to list the streets and intersections that WON’T be trouble spots for the next few months. Can anybody think of some?
Urban Forest Restoration in March
February 24, 2009 by seanpboydThe Nature Consortium, a West Seattle nonprofit dedicated to restoring the West Duwamish Greenbelt, is hosting many work parties during the month of March. Check out the City of Seattle Event Calendar for exact dates and locations. Anything that puts more green around the Duwamish (as opposed to IN the Duwamish) is a good thing.
SODO Bus Reroutes To Begin In March
February 24, 2009 by seanpboydOur thanks to the Seattle Transit Blog for the information and frequent updates about bus service here in SODO and elsewhere. This is how we learned about the reroute of bus routes passing through SODO due to the Spokane Street construction. For more information on the specific routes affected, and the changes in store, see Metro’s web site.
